Ngcobo was originally founded by Sir Walter Stanford, English nobleman, govner, businessman in 1844,as a white settlement farming area. The name "Ngcobo" means lush-spring, reeds, longgrass or wet bush in most popular language the townsfolk speak, isiXhosa. This town is a home to many differrent peoples (amaXhosa,Chinese traders, Pakistani, north African traders and a lot more) For a long period the town has been reguarded as one of the most natural beautiful towns in the province.

Ngcobo (formerly Engcobo)[1] is a town in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa.

Ngcobo has the status of a local municipality within the Chris Hani District Municipality of the Eastern Cape.

Ngcobo was situated in the former Bantustan of Transkei.
